"Recovery from trauma becomes possible when there's a compassionate person who helps you tell your story without judgment, and then gently guides you back into a community where hope blooms." ~ Graduate Student in Arts and Trauma Healing at DIU

Trauma is a growing reality around the world, creating an urgent need for people equipped to walk alongside individuals and communities on the path toward healing. Many practitioners are seeking training that integrates practical tools, cultural understanding, and a faith-informed approach to restoration through the arts.

Since 2014, DIU has offered training in Arts and Trauma Healing, including the foundational course WA5383 Arts and Trauma Healing. More than 200 students from around the world have participated in this course, with hundreds more engaged through workshops and mentoring in countries such as Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Burundi, Kenya, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. This approach uses the arts and Scripture-based practices to support whole-person engagement in the healing process. In response to growing demand for advanced training, DIU offers both a Graduate Certificate in Arts and Trauma Healing and, as of Spring 2026, a Master of Arts in Arts and Trauma Healing. These programs prepare students for deeper, more specialized service in this expanding field.

Scholarships for these programs are provided through the Arts and Trauma Healing Endowment Fund, helping make this training accessible to qualified students from around the world. These funds support tuition and program costs for students who demonstrate strong potential for cross-cultural service in arts and trauma healing.

Through this support, students are equipped to bring hope, skill, and compassionate care to communities affected by trauma around the world.
